Sago is the base ingredient
Sago, also known as Tapioca pearls acting as the main ingredient in the preparation of this Vadam, we use the Sago, otherwise known as Sabudana. The Sago is also used in the preparation of various other recipes to even sweets, such as a Kheer(Payasam), the Sabudana, when added to the dishes, ensures a thicker consistency, which is necessary for an item like Sabudana Vadam.
Vadam – the Summer tradition
Vadam, also called Sendige, is popular across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. People serve it with typical South Indian meals on every special occasion, especially on tender banana leaves. Families prepare vadam at home, mainly during summer, using the hot sun to dry it perfectly. They then store it for year-round use.
This age-old summer tradition isn’t just about food—it’s about family, memories, and shared joy. Making vadam brings households together, with every member pitching in to mix, shape, and lay them out under the sun. The aroma, the chatter, and the joy of preparing it linger long after. Today, even as lifestyles change, the love for vadam remains strong. That’s why we bring you homemade-style vadams, just like those prepared with care in South Indian homes—crunchy, flavorful, and full of tradition.
Carrot Vadam comes with health
Although the basic ingredient is the Sago, otherwise known as Sabudana, the mixture also contains carrot in this variety. Thus the health benefits of carrots are accompanied along with the product. Their natural taste makes them a must-try in South Indian cuisine.
