Pongal and Varagu Pongal
Pongal is one of the most popular tiffin varieties in the state of Tamilnadu. Usually made of rice, there are two basic types of Pongal, namely the Chakkarai Pongal and Ven Pongal. The other varieties also include the Puli Pongal, Milagu Pongal, etc. It is one of the nutrient-rich foods.
The major significance of Pongal is the making of the dish Pongal, during the most popular harvesting festival of Tamilnadu- Pongal. On the occasion, Pongal is made and offered at the occasion to celebrate the joy of harvest. The Varagu Pongal, also known as the Varagu Arisi Pongal or Kodo Millet Pongal is made out of the major ingredient of Kodo Millet.
